Website helps do-it-yourself mechanics perform their own repairs

AutoTap is a website dedicated to educating and helping do-it-yourself mechanics to understand and do repairs to their vehicles.

Their growing collection of articles are designed to help diagnose, repair, and optimize the performance of  cars and trucks. As more electronic sensors are added, their goal is to make diagnostics and repairs easy and inexpensive.

With pages like Diagnosing the Battery, Starting, & Charging Systems and Preventive Maintenance: Fluids and Filters you should, with reasonable skills, be able to at least talk intelligently with your mechanic, and at best make the diagnosis and repair yourself, saving time in the shop and expense.

In their article Diagnosing the Battery, Charging, & Ignition System the first paragraph states:

What do you really need to know about diagnosing and repairing starting, charging and ignition systems? Two things, basically: that electrical and ignition problems are often difficult to diagnose (especially intermittent faults), and that a LOT of electrical and ignition parts are replaced unnecessarily in an attempt to repair problems that are hard to diagnose.
Just avoiding unnecesasary replacement of parts alone--by you or your mechanic--can shave many dollars off a repair job. Check it out. You can access the AutoTap website here
